The basic requirement in a carpet to tile transition is the placement of an intermediate surface between the two floor types. Because the edges are the most susceptible to damage, the intermediate surface must allow a regular change between surfaces while protecting the edges. Before everything else, one should have the following tools needed: a tack strip (available at home supply stores), a stair tool or a spatula which will be needed for tucking in the carpet, a slotted blade knife, and a hammer. Doing a carpet to tile transition is easy for it doesn’t require expert carpentry skills and special tools. One just has to be careful enough so as not to damage the floor surfaces and hurt himself.
There are several ways to do a carpet to tile transition, but the easiest would be the use of a glue-down tack strip or Z-bar to attach the carpet. A ramp or an inclined plane might be used to give the tile the necessary height. The ramp will be put under the carpet. If both the carpet and the flooring are already on the same height, the threshold can now be placed on the floor and attached with the tack strip. The step-down threshold shall be screwed down into the carpet and angled in a way that the transition will still be a smooth one. Make sure that the measurements are accurate because this will determine the smoothness of the carpet to tile transition.
